Hey Mitch, there's been some

Hey Mitch, there's been some concern in our neighborhood about unusually high water bills. It has been discussed on the Ladies page so you wouldn't have seen it probably. Is this a meeting regarding that? And/or could we attend and bring up that issue?

High Water Bills

I assume you are referring to the HOA water bills? Are you reviewing the financial statements of HOA?

No for individual houses.

No for individual houses. Multiple families have gotten extremely high bills (around $300) for random months.

Water Bill vs. Utility District

The MUD posting is for the Municipal Utility District. They are in charge of the bigger water lines as well as drainage. So, they would get water from a well somewhere and get it to parts of the city. Then the city charges you for getting it the rest of the way to your individual house and meters it. The MUD also does drainage work like clearing the bayou of debris or reshaping it when it washes out. The MUD is your annual $3000-$5000 ish tax bill that is due by January 31, 2017. Your mortgage company may pay it out of your escrow. Mine is about the same as last year. It's based on your home's value.

The city's monthly water bill is probably what you mean. It includes a variable amount for local distribution and sewer depending on your water usage and a fixed amount for trash and recycling pickup. Our water bill is fairly consistent on a cycle through the year, except for August when it's huge. I'm certain we don't use any more water in July or September than in August. Last year, people have called the city and they just get a shrug and hand-wave answer.

You may have noticed we have remote/wireless metering. There's an antenna patch on the top of your black box in your front yard. That's for the city to get your meter reading without actually entering your house like they used to in the old days. Now they drive a truck around with a corresponding antenna and that reads your meter's usage number.

My theory is that they apply an algorithm to simulate a rising and falling wave of monthly usage through the year, then they come around in August and get an *actual* reading from our meters and reset it for the August bill. Perhaps the algorithm isn't so good since we just moved here. If it were an accurate prediction, we wouldn't notice a bump. Perhaps the people actually answering the phone at the city don't know about this.

The meeting in the notice above will be about running water and other utilities as well as the drainage ditches along the moved part of Franz Road from Ave. D to Scott Ranch.

Here's the city's residential water page:
